Our 2012 Merlot is a beautiful "Old World" style reflection of the vintage. An inviting nose abounds with rich earth, black cherries, and hints of black pepper. The palate is lush and juicy, ripe with dark berries, spiced plums, and rich pomegranate. With pretty undertones of spice, northwest minerality and tobacco, this food-friendly wine has nice acid-to-tannin balance and a delightful mixed berry finish.
The 2012 Summer was warm with no prolonged, excessive heat events. The late Summer and early Fall brought on slightly cooler daytime highs and a significant diurnal shift, a pattern that continued well into October, allowing late varietals to thoroughly complete ripening.
