The 2017 vintage was a difficult one to start, coming off one of the coldest winters in Eastern Washington’s history. Despite a late frost, our fruit survived. As spring turned into summer, Mother Nature delivered an ideal growing season, long enough for the fruit to fully ripen and short enough to ensure we could harvest before poor weather arrived.
The StoneTree Malbec is the first red varietal to come in every season and more often than not it is the first varietal of any kind to come into the winery. We love the complexity that this wine brings from start to finish.
The intensity of color from this varietal is outstanding; it takes a good half day to scrub the color from this wine out of our tanks! During fermentation this varietal undergoes extraordinary development that can be accredited to its roots in the Wahluke Slope, one of the warmest winegrowing regions in the state, and arguably one of the best places in Washington to grow wine grapes.
This wine exhibits both elegance and restraint in the glass showcasing bright and alluring aromas of smoked peppers, blackberry, and luscious dark chocolate undertones. The wine’s complexity is revealed within layers of dark red fruits, black pepper, and an expressive finish. Pairs enticingly well with Beef Bolognese.
