We love our orange muscat from Crawford Vineyard. It is an unusual and very fragrant grape. The clusters taste so good after a long hot afternoon in the vineyards and the fermented wine is equally delicious. We harvest orange muscat every year but decided to showcase it as a single varietal in 2016 as we find it a great stand alone with all its orange peel character.
Budbreak was 2 to 3 weeks earlier than normal in 2016 but temperatures cooled down after the first week of June and remained more or less normal through the rest of the summer. The yields were higher than average and the nighttime temperatures cooled down in mid-summer, which slowed down ripening, allowing for the grapes to accumulate more flavors.
