Cody grew up in Royal City, WA where he learned about farming and how to drive a tractor from a young age. Farming has always been a big part of his life and when deciding what to do with his future, viticulture became the obvious choice. After graduating Royal High School in the spring of 2011, Cody took a trip to Europe to tour around Italy, Greece, and the Greek isles and this is where he had his first glass of wine… it was love at first sight! Cody found the flavors and aromas overwhelming and knew that he wanted more. When he got back to the USA, he immediately went to Walla Walla and signed up for Winemaking and Viticulture program. At 18 years old, he was one of the youngest to start (and finish) the program, but with the help of the amazing faculty, Cody knew that he had found his calling. While still enrolled at school, Cody joined Forgeron in the fall of 2011 as a harvest intern and felt blessed at the opportunity. He graduated from the WWCC program, in the spring of 2014, with an AAAS in Viticulture & Oenology. In the spring of 2015, Cody was promoted to assistant winemaker for Forgeron Cellars and worked alongside the founding winemaker Marie Gilla to help create the wines of 2015, 2016, and 2017 vintages. He was able to learn and experience many different aspects of winemaking under Marie’s tutelage. Upon her retirement in the summer of 2018 he was promoted to Head Winemaker.
