CRAWFORD VINEYARD
Yakima Valley
Poor, very fine sandy soil provides excellent drainage. Crawford has warm, dry summers, but is cooler than other areas, producing grapes with great acids and flavors.

WHY WE LOVE IT
Crawford is a small family-owned and run farm, well-diversified with apples, corn and blueberries in addition to grapes. These third generation farmers do not worry about trends and fads; they focus only on what is best for the plant and final product. For example, when everybody else is on double cordon, Crawford uses Geneva double curtain. Geneva double curtain trains the foliage up, creating good air movement and shade for the fruit, perfect for whites, it allows more time for ripening and not so much stress from the heat.

We have long been drawn to the uniqueness of the Crawford Vineyard with its use of Geneva Double Curtain Trellis throughout the vineyard. The use of this system allows for improved airflow through the vines, while helping control vigor. Crawford always provides the brightness and acidity that we look for in our Viognier and Roussanne ots.
