The 2018 Cabernet Sauvignon Dionysus Vineyard wafts up from the glass with a lovely and spicy mix of peppery black raspberry, grilled sage and hints of sour citrus. This is silky smooth with depths of dark red fruits carried across a core of zesty acidity. It finishes with decent length but also energy, remaining potent yet wickedly fresh. The 2019 Cabernet Sauvignon is spicy in the glass, blending crushed raspberries with nuances of sage and wildflowers. This is a soft yet juicy stule with tart red berries and mineral tones lifted by brisk acidity. Grippy tannins are left to linger through the long and dramatic finale as nuances of blueberry and sweet herbs resonate on.

Musky medicinal raspberry and peppery wild hers form a spicy bouquet as the 2020 Mourvèdre Heart of the Hill Vineyard opens in the glass. It's soft and round on the palate, with motivating acidity and a sweet mix of red and blue fruit. The cheeks are left puckered with tension throughout the finale as rosy florals slowly fad. This juicy Mourvèdre really aims to please and will provide a lot of satisfaction after only a short stay in the cellar. From: Against All Odds: Washington State's 2020s and 2019s (March 2023)

Well-balanced and highly viscous, the 2018 Chardonnay by Forgeron is a fantastic bottling with good cellaring potential. On the nose, it takes on layers of baking-spice-dusted brioche alongside banana and roasted pineapple. Silky-textured throughout the drinking experience, this finishes very long with stony minerals and vanilla crème brûlee. Enjoy this glorious wine over the next eight-plus years.

Syrah

The 2019 Syrah ANVIL Boushey Vineyard is all Syrah and spent 17 months in one-third new French oak. Its deep purple hue is followed by a Northern Rhône-like bouquet of ripe black cherries, blackberries, smoked game, iron, and peppery herbs. It's another medium to full-bodied, balanced, nicely textured Syrah from this estate that has tons of class. It's terrific today with a decant and should easily evolve for 10-15 years in cold cellars.

Bright, dark ruby. Brooding, slightly medicinal aromas of kirsch, blackberry, menthol, dark chocolate and wild mountain herbs. Dense but alive on entry, then nicely concentrated but a bit unrefined in the middle palate, showing a faint herbal edge to its simple dark berry flavors. Not bad but a little one-dimensional. I wanted more depth, ripeness and flavor interest. Slightly tart on the back end, and a little drier than the 2018 Boushey Vineyard Syrah. Will this unwind with bottle aging?

Haunting aromas and flavors go so deep for this high elevation, 18-month French oak-aged Syrah. An inky well of tar, bacon fat, tobacco and red fruit are mirrored on nose and palate. Graphite lines the mouth, with a dot of black pepper. Tannins are pronounced and texturally rich with a slight chalkiness & salinity licks the tongue on the finish. This is what we love about this varietal, and in its second vintage, it keeps us wanting more.

Supple and nicely intense, with sweet chocolatey oak complementing dark fruit and mineral flavors. Most impressive today on the palate-staining back end, which features substantial but fine-grained tannins and serious rising length. Not quite floral but shows a light touch to go with its concentration and restrained sweetness. Very dark fruit in character and quite youthful.
