2009 Primitivo, StoneTree Vineyard

Primitivo is a lesser known varietal that is closely related to the Zinfandel grape,  however the wines they produce have very distinct differences. The fruit character is less jammy, the structure is more similar to old world wines, with rustic notes of earth and spice, as well as tamed fruit flavors.

Our second vintage of Primitivo is a rich balance of elegance and power with inky black fruit and regal color. Incredible aromas of savory cinnamon, chai spice & cardamom with jammy black cherries and blackberries, braised figs and hints of white pepper. Warm and rich in the mouth with a creamy texture, the ripe dark fruit is supported by the deep structure of the wine. The body is mouth-filling and chewy with flavors of bittersweet chocolate, dried berries, pumpkin pie spice and balanced, lively acids.  With a slightly larger production than previously of only 146 cases,  this is a wine that beckons you to invite friends over for an evening on the patio while enjoying a couple of bottles of 2009 StoneTree Primitivo!

Primitivo is known as a food-friendly wine and the 2009 is no exception! With the spring and summer months upon us, hearty food for the grill is the first thing that comes to mind. We recommend Primitivo Braised Beef, grilled Burgers with Chipotle Barbeque sauce, Fennel & Sausage Risotto, grilled Drumsticks with Plum Sauce, or Roast Bass with Fennel, Tomatoes & Olives.
