Seattle Times deems Marie-Eve's Wines "Simply Sensational"

Marie-Eve Gilla's wines are "...simply sensational; limited production, sophisticated winemaking, very fair prices."

Paul Gregutt, Seattle Times "Wine Adviser", October 28 2003

Catching up with a trio of gifted winemakers

…Finally, completing this "where are they now" hat trick, I must congratulate winemaker Marie-Eve Gilla, whose brief career at Gordon Brothers winery in Pasco brought that winery some of its highest wine competition honors. Now she has released the first few wines from her own winery, Forgeron Cellars, in Walla Walla. They are simply sensational; limited production, sophisticated winemaking, very fair prices.

It is often said that wines are made in the vineyard. Yes, but...the real artistry happens at the winery, under the guidance of uniquely gifted winemakers. All of these wines are highly recommended.

Recommended wines from Marie-Eve Gilla

Forgeron Cellars 2001 Syrah ($29). A dense, dark wine, scented with meaty fruit, smoke, toast & tar. Here is everything you want in syrah: sweet berries, spicy, toasty oak, & highlights of cinnamon & pepper.

Forgeron Cellars 2001 Cabernet Sauvignon ($29). Dark & juicy, this is a powerful, polished wine. Ripe blackberry & black cherry fruit is enlivened with spice & hints of black pepper.

Forgeron Cellars 2001 Zinfandel ($25). Another delicious Zin from Washington. Very ripe fruit, tasting of tart cherries, fills the mouth, underscored by bourbon barrel flavors from aging in American oak.
