2007 Zinfandel, Columbia Valley ($30)
"This Zinfandel was bottled in June 2009, and released two years later. It exhibits a deep garnet color and a spicy, peppery nose of blackberry, cherry, dried orange peel and cassis, with whiffs of spiced incense and burnt brambles. On the palate, it is brilliantly fruited and spiced, with sensations of Wahluke Slope scorched earth (62% Stone Tree), plush fruit (24% Les Collines) and ripe fruit confit (12% Alder Ridge). The back picks up notes of chocolate, mocha, toast and spice (from 100% new American oak) on a warm (14.8% alcohol), but not hot, ripe tannin finish."
