2011 Forgeron Cellars Zinfandel, Columbia Valley ($30)
"Composed of 78% Alder Ridge (Horse Heaven Hills) Zinfandel and 22% Stonetree Primitivo (Wahluke Slope) this shows a deep ruby color and an inviting nose of boysenberry, cherry and fig, with scents of dried roses, mulberry, tobacco, spiced incense and peppercorns. On the palate, the medium full-bodied red fruit flavors are ripe and vivid, intermixed with licorice, bittersweet chocolate, mocha and scorched earth. The back picks up notes of roasted berries, dried cherries, orange peel and charcoal, and flows smoothly into a lingering baking spice-imbued ripe tannin finish. 18.5/20 points."
