2010 BlackSmith Chardonnay, Columbia Valley ($15)
"BlackSmith is a new label from Forgeron Cellars for sale at retailers and restaurants rather than the winery. This Chardonnay shows a brilliant gold color and a rich nose of pear, peach, apple blossoms and acacia flowers. The white fruit flavors are well extracted, with notes of grape skin, stony minerals, mandarin orange rind and butternut. Not overtly tropical, it shows fine fruit acid balance on the back and finish, accented with light spices and oak (33% new). 87% Chardonnay with a mixture of other varieties (Semillon, Grenache Blanc, Orange Muscat etc.). 18/20 points."
