Rand Sealey reviews 2009 StoneTree Petite Sirah

"...the dark fruits are thick & saturated, imbued with notes of black licorice, espresso & Wahluke scorched earth...saturation from beginning to end gives this a plus."

2009 Forgeron Cellars Petite Sirah, Wahluke Slope, Stonetree Vineyard ($30)

"Inky purplish colored, this wine emits intense, smoky aromas of black cherry, black currant, juniper berry, crushed black roses, black incense and cracked pepper. On the palate, the dark fruits are thick and saturated, imbued with notes of black licorice, espresso and Wahluke scorched earth. The intensity continues on the back with sensations of grilled fruits, spiced dried cherries and crème de cassis and charcoal, followed by a warm (14.5% alcohol), peppery, chewy, moderate tannin finish. The saturation from beginning to end gives this a plus. 18.5+/20 points."
