Rand Sealey Reviews 2009 Primitivo

"The palate brims with ripe, spicy dark fruit flavors, intermixed with black licorice, dark chocolate, espresso, and Wahluke scorched earth...A grinding of pepper and spices (cinnamon, nutmeg) on the savory moderate tannin finish completes this heady wine."

2009 Primitivo, Stonetree Vineyard, Wahluke Slope  ($30)

"This clonal Zinfandel shows a semi-opaque purplish color and seductive aromas of wild blackberries, black cherries, mulberry, rosebuds, brambles and smoldering incense. The palate brims with ripe, spicy dark fruit flavors, intermixed with black licorice, dark chocolate, espresso, and Wahluke scorched earth. The back picks up notes of roasted berries, dried cherries, burnt charcoal, and crème brulée. The alcohol registers at 15.2%, but is balanced by bright fruit acids. A grinding of pepper and spices (cinnamon, nutmeg) on the savory moderate tannin finish completes this heady wine. 18.5/20 points."
