2009 BlackSmith Syrah, Columbia Valley ($15)
"This Syrah (blended with 6% Petite Sirah) displays a deep purplish color and a rich nose of blackberry, cherry, plum, spice and lavender. The chewy palate is chock full of thick dark fruits that are marked by notes of licorice, chocolate and earthy minerals. The back picks up sensations of roasted berries and nuts, followed by moderate oak (45% new French and American) and sweet-dry tannins on the lingering spice-tinged finish. 18/20 points."
