2008 Forgeron Cellars Barbera, Columbia Valley, Sagemoor Vineyard ($30)
"Deep ruby colored, this wine shows intriguing aromas of boysenberry, cherry, cigar smoke, mulberry, brambles and cracked pepper. On the entry, the dark cherry fruit flavors jump forward into the mouth, intermixed with black licorice, cocoa powder and variegated minerals. The back picks up tart cherry juices (a trait of Barbera) that are accented by notes of blueberry, burnt charcoal and spices (cinnamon, nutmeg, clove) on a lively moderate tannin finish."
