Rand Sealey Reviews 2007 Petit Verdot

"Deep purple colored, it emits a rich, spicy nose of blackberry, marionberry, black cherry, cassis and gunflint, with intriguing scents of wild roses, hibiscus and sandalwood... For its seductive exoticism, this get a plus."

2007 Petit Verdot, Yakima Valley ($30)

"Sourced from the Lonesome Springs Vineyard in the Yakima Valley, this is a striking red from a variety usually used for "Bordeaux" blends. Deep purple colored, it emits a rich, spicy nose of blackberry, marionberry, black cherry, cassis and gunflint, with intriguing scents of wild roses, hibiscus and sandalwood. The sultry flavors are thick and chewy, laden with dark roasted fruits, charcoal, black licorice and espresso. The back picks up notes of dried cherries, roasted nuts and recurring graphite, followed by a lingering sweet-dry slightly nutted finish. For its seductive exoticism, this get a "plus"."
