2009 Forgeron Cellars “ANVIL Reserve” Red Blend, Columbia Valley ($56)
"This is a highly impressive blend of 50% Pepper Bridge & Dionysus Cabernet Sauvignon, 30% Boushey Merlot & 20% Dionysus Petit Verdot. It displays a semi-opaque ruby color & an intense nose of wild blackberry, huckleberry, cherry & black currants, with scents of attar of rose, mulberry, juniper berry, cigar box, & incense. The flavors mirror the aromas with saturated fruits wrapped around a deep core, intermixed with licorice, Swiss chocolate, French roast & minerally earth. The back reveals the ripeness of a warm year, with macerated berries, roasted nuts, kirsch liqueur & crème de cassis, followed by a lingering, spiced (cardamom, clove) sweetish tannin finish. The integrated oak (64% new French), moderate alcohol (14.3%) & acidity (.47 g/100 ml.) make for an approachable, fruit-driven, yet well-structured wine that will age well for several years. 19.5/20 points."
