2011 Forgeron Cellars Boushey Vineyard Merlot, Yakima Valley ($30)
"This 100% varietal wine (clones 3 & 181) displays a deep purplish color & a classic nose of black cherry, plum & cassis, with scents of black roses, mulberries, damp stone & black violets. The dark red fruit flavors are mouth-filling, yet focused, with admixtures of licorice, bittersweet chocolate, black tea & Missoula Flood minerals. The back turns grainy textured, with sensations of macerated berries, spiced dried cherries, plum liqueur, crème de cassis, graphite & persistent minerality, & leads into a lingering lightly oaked (22% new) dryish, yet unaustere, finish that is enlivened by bright fruit acids. 18.5/20 points."
