2010 Forgeron Cellars Les Collines Syrah, Walla Walla Valley ($46 – wine club only)
"This is an impressive rendition of Les Collines Syrah. It exhibits a semi-opaque purplish color & a sensuous nose of wild blackberry, blueberry, & black currants, with scents of attar of rose, lavender, violets & spiced incense. On the palate, the black & blue fruit flavors are thick & saturated, yet refined, intermixed with licorice, dark chocolate, campfire coffee & Blue Mountain foothills loam, gravel & loess minerals. The intensity continues on the back with sensations of macerated berries, roasted nuts, & framboise liqueur, & turns sweetish (crème de cassis) & then dry (orange peel, suede leather, cinnamon bark, burnt charcoal), followed by a lingering spicy (nutmeg, clove) grainy tannin finish that is accented by bright fruit acids (.69 g/100 ml. total acidity) & moderate oak (40% new French). 19/20 points."
